Quite decent paper towels — not much to say about it. Their absorbency is a little bit less than nonrecycled ones, but not bad, and no further trees had to be cut down for it.

What the product description should say but doesn’t: these are 120-sheet rolls. Each sheet is 11×9″.

Something I didn’t entirely realize before I ordered a box — thirty rolls is a lot of paper towels. Like, oh, twenty pounds of the stuff. So you’re going to have these on hand for a while. You’ll have to bring them along when you move, and they’ll watch the children whose playpens you cleaned up with the first of them leave for college after wiping their car’s dipstick with the last. It’s something of a committment, really.

You might be comparing these brown paper towels with the 30 rolls of Seventh Generation, white paper towels also sold on Amazon wondering which is cheaper. Note that these are 120 sheets per roll. The white ones are 70 sheets per roll.

White paper towels

.99/(30*70) = 1.9 cents per sheet.

Brown paper towels

.99/(30*120) = 1.5 cents per sheet.

So the brown ones are cheaper.

The Cardboard Boat Book

A step-by-step instruction manual on how to build a lightweight ‘environmentally-friendly’ boat from recyclable resources. The boats simply fold up from ¼” thick cardboard obtaining their strength from the geometry of the component parts. The boats are 8-feet long, weigh about 25-pounds, and can accommodate a 250-pound person without risking structural damage. Each boat is constructed with 21-pieces of cardboard that are used to make 7-component parts. The 7 parts are assembled together with ‘environmentally-friendly’ contact cement and paper drywall tape. Once assembled the boats are sealed with an ‘environmentally-friendly’ water-based waterproof coating. No special tools are required and they are very simple to build. All of the materials used to build a boat are typically found at ‘do-it-yourself’ home improvement stores. The boats can be outfitted with 12-volt electric fishing motors, although they are typically propelled with traditional Kayak style paddles.

I Got the Cardboard boat book a few months ago. Built the boat with 6 year old son. We had a lot of fun building it. It attracted a lot of attention outside in the driveway, and a few times we ended up with a small party of neighbors hanging out, talking, helping, and having fun. It was Awesome. After waiting two months for a day without Snow or rain, I got it in the lake. Floats like a dream. We spent over two hours floating around and exploring the areas we cant get to by land. Not a hint of water damage afterwords. My son had plenty of room up front, and I was more than comfortable in back. The boat is very sturdy. Resists tipping more than a plastic Kayak too. So I give the book a thumbs up. It delivers a great product and a lot of fun on the way. The end result is cool, but its the getting there, the “building” that is the best. My son is very proud of our accomplishment.

So I bet people are thinking, “Do I really need to buy the book, cant I just make one on my own?”….. Buy the book. This is a serious boat. It will work, and it will last a lifetime. I could not have done it without the book. You will understand how well engineered the plans are once you make it.

Not only is the book very readable, the instructions are clear and concise with a combination of diagrams and pictures, making it truly a DIY project with all the supplies needed available at your local hardware store. These boats Mr. Friant has built really work! And they last!! Most cardboard boat types last 30 minutes if your lucky. Twnety three years of repeated use is remarkable and a testimony to this boats design. I can’t wait to start mine! Nice job Mr. Friant!!!

The tissue is advertised on Amazon as having a minimum of 80% post consumer recycled (P.C.R.) content. The product I received, however, states that while the box is 85% P.C.R., the tissue itself is only 20% P.C.R. This is pretty lame, I must say.

Also, it doesn’t come in the cool box displayed online with the green tree, but some strange ‘cloudish’ design that looks like it is from the 1980′s or something.

If 7th Gen. has changed the product, they should take the time to make sure that the resellers advertise with the most up to date info – shame on them.

The facial tissue is probably not the thickest or softest product on the market but it is as soft and absorbent as most and excellent for everyday use.

I have had my Gilmore for about a week now. I tried it out in my weedy back yard. I was shocked at how well it cuts, and how little effort it takes to push. I snapped on the grass catcher and away I went. Other name brand models don’t come with the grass catcher, but the Gilmore has it’s own fitted catcher. The height adjustment works just like a powered mower. With gasoline becoming very costly, I decided to go green. The only drawback to reel mowers are that they don’t like sticks. So pick up the bigs sticks and then push away. I was very leary about getting a reel mower, but I am soooooo glad I got this one. Get it and try it, you won’t go back to noisy,smelly,money wasting power mowers again.
